A document Request for Comments (RFC) is one of a series of information documents and numbered Internet standards widely followed by the software for use in networking, Internet and network operating systems, from Unix, Windows, and Novell NetWare. RFC is now published under the direction of the Internet Society (ISOC) and the constituent bodies, technical standards, such as the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) or the Internet Research Task Force (IRTF). All standard Internet and TCP / IP is always published in the RFC, although not all RFCs defining Internet standards. Some RFC even just offer information, experiments / experiments, or only historical information only.
Prior to becoming an RFC document, a document filed shall be deemed to be a draft of the Internet (Internet draft), which is a document that is generally developed by one developer in the IETF working group or IRTF.
